Does this exist? Where can I purchase and how much is it? Is it possible to purchase online in advance? We%26#39;re looking to travel from downtown Paris to Versailles on Tuesday, September 5th.

Yes, it does exist... and it is very easy. We bought our tickets at the SNCF office at the Montparnasse station for 21.15 Euro each. It includes the one-day pass plus round-trip tickets... and the other thing if you don%26#39;t get a day pass for the metro, the round-trip ticket can also be used on the metro for your return trip back to your station or destination within the city.

We bought ours at the St. Michael metro station. Check the Versailles site, it has info about it. I printed out what I wanted in french and showed it to the ticket person and there was no problem. You get free audio guides with the one-day pass which was very nice. It is not dated, so you can buy it one day and use it another.

You do not need to purchase the ticket online in advance, as you will pay fees that aren%26#39;t necessary. Simply purchase the ticket at the RER station you leave from, so you%26#39;ll have it in hand when you arrive at the chateau. The pass is part of the Forfaits Loisirs from Transilien SNCF, and printing out the information from the Transilien website, or Versaille%26#39;s website and handing it to the ticket agent is an excellent idea.
By the way, September 5th is Louis XIV%26#39;s birthday (5 sep 1638), so be sure to give him a special %26quot;happy birthday%26quot; nod as you stroll the parquet floors and admire the gold leaf and extravagance only he could get away with.

...And August 25 day is St Louis%26#39; day. On that day, the sun sets exactly in the axis of Versailles%26#39;s reflecting grand canal. The reflection on the water is in turn echoed by the hall of mirrors%26#39; mirrors, so that, from outside, you have the impression the place is on fire. The original poster could be lucky to see that on September, 5th

I have a related question. My fiancee and I will be driving to Versailles (from Southern France) and staying O/N there before heading by train into Paris for a few days. We plan on touring Versailles palace the morning after we arrive in Versailles. I would like to purchase a Versailles one-day pass plus our RER ticket into Paris. Can I purchase the pass plus a one-way train ticket from one of the RER stations in Versailles? Or do I need to be in Paris to purchase the one day pass plus train ticket? Would I be better off just buying either the one-day pass or a Paris Museum pass from the palace itself? Thanks!

We just did Versailles using the roundtrip/entry package purchased at RER. Glad we had tickets in hand as there was a loong line at the Versailles ticket booth by 9 am. Museum pass also works but it%26#39;s much too expensive unless you%26#39;re doing several museums. Keep in mind that Versailles and most museums are free to those under 18.

Ok, stoopid question - but I have to get this.
If you buy your ticket in advance (e.g. at a FNAC shop or at the RER station) - can you skip the waiting lines at the entrance to Versailles ?
It seems I have to go there in October - but last time I was at Versailles (5 years ago) we waited over 1 hour - (but that was to buy tickets of course).
|||
GitteK, Yes. When we went July 1 the line for the one day pass people had 3 people in front of us when we got there at 9. The other line was extremely long.

I bought tickets for my sister and I at the Gare de Lazare - Transilien office not the SNCF office, two different offices. In my opinion it was worth it. You get the audio included, it is a must. As someone said to us, without the audio, you are looking at beautiful things, with the audio you get to know the history behind every room you walk into, and you can listen to it as many times as you want, while you are in the same room of course. To us the 21 Euros and change was worth every penny. After you exit the train station in Versailles getting to the castle is very easy. Just follow the signs or the other tourists. From what I remember The Trasillien offices are only found on the major train stations like Gare De Lyon, Gare de Nord, Gare St. Lazare, etc. I don%26#39;t think FNAC will have it. Hopefully all of these responses are helful to you. Have a good time in Paris!!

We used our museum passes for Versailles, but the one day pass with train was available at the Orsay RER. Have fun!
