Thanks to London Bob for your invaluable advice.
We returned today after 7 nights at the Hotel Welcome and enjoyed every second except to say that personally it was too hot for me at the end of July and would go, maybe, at the end of May next time.
The two buses from the airport were both easy to find and waiting for us although this was probably pure luck as our return journey today was slightly more difficult.
We had 7 superb lunches and 7 superb evening meals, taking London Bob%26#39;s advice with regard to L%26#39;Oursin Bleu but I have to mention Cafe Dell Artes for a cheaper option. We also had several very enjoyable late night drinks at Cosmo just below our hotel bedroom window and at Lombardos, one street further back.
I can not recommend Villefranche highly enough for anyone who doesnt mind paying a little extra for quality and this forum for its invlauable advice. We are not on a budget but are certainly far from wealthy and if anyone of a similar situation wishes to get in touch please do so on robsam28@aol.com. We will definately be going back to Villefranche.

Just returned from two weeks that started with the Hotel Welcome. Loved the hotel but it was too hot. the air barely came out. Scouted around town and found a fan for 44 Euros. It was worth every cent! Sold it to the Hotel for 20 when we left. Couldnt believe they didnt have a fan anywhere. Still, I believe the weather was unusually hot. all in all I would recommend the Hotel Welcome and the Village of Villefrance for its ambiance, good food and wonderful setting. It was a world away from the busy streets of NIce and the train and bus were right there if we wanted to go anywhere. Bastille Day was awesome and we went to the Ball at the castle on the hill. The museum there is free and some of the most beautiful bronzes of women I have ever seen. perfect riviera setting!

ronnieb, You are most welcome and glad you enjoyed the Welcome!
I am a big fan of Nice but we do not regret selling our flat in Nice and buying near the Welcome. The relative quiet of Villefranche and easy access to sometimes noisy Nice is the perfect holiday situation as far as we are concerned.
