Louis Vuitton Bag

I am going to Paris in October and would like to know if I will find better prices on real Louis Vuitton handbags in Paris rather than here in Canada or the U.S. ? Would prices be better outside of Paris?

I am assumming there are many places to buy Louis Vuitton in Paris, but any reccomendations to where to go would be appreciated.

Is there a tax refund, when buying clothes, etc. from Paris?

If you type in %26quot;VAT%26quot; you will find all the info you need on tax refunds. Same for the weather. I%26#39;ll be there in October as well, and I%26#39;m packing slacks, a skirt, a mix of long and short sleeved blouses, a leather jacket and my silk thermals (just in case it%26#39;s really cold).

Hi, I am not sure about prices in the states or canada but I am sure prices in Paris will be a better deal as it is made there.

I prefer to shop in Louis Vuitton Champs elyesse main boutique as it is bigger and they process the tax refund forms for u. I also find the service better cos while waiting for your purchase to be packed, they bring u to an area where drinks are served.

If u buy it at Galaries Lafayette, u have to queue at the service counter to get your tax form and the queue is long.

Please go there in the morning as the crowd is lesser and they have enough manpower to serve you. I have experience going late afternoon and i have to wait for a long time to be serve and it can be frustrating.

Thanks so much for the advice. I cant wait to see Paris and shop for clothes and a Louis Vuitton bag. Here in Canada, the bag I want is $1200 Canadian...the bag is the Alma style...I guess Im wondering what it would be worth in Paris, with the tax break? If you have any idea, let me know...again thanks for your advice!

AnnetteC is correct, this topic has had much discussion. One point to keep in mind however when comparing prices is that French purchases of this type qualify for the VAT (19.7%) to be reimbursed to the purchaser. This can really make a difference in what one ultimately pays for the same item in either the US or Canada.

Louis Vuitton,is much cheaper here in The USA just like their french perfumes.I met a bunch of French visitors who were going crazy at the Mall Of Millenia here in Orlando,they said some of the prices are almost half what they pay for LV in France,I am talking about the real stuff,not fake.

This is only partically true. The refund is indeed 19.7% as paid by the French government. As to how much of this actually reaches the pocket of the purchaser is quite subjective. Some vendors do indeed refund the entire 19.7% to the purchaser, unfortunately these are few. Most take the difference between what the govnerment pays and what the customer receives as a commission for their processing overhead. Most department stores keep 7.7%, most boutiques keep 6.7%. In effect this is a very nice little profit center for retailers which is why they are very happy to encourage your to obtain the refund.

I spend every other month back in Europe %26amp; from my experience L.V has always been far cheaper there than here in the States. At the moment though, Americans changing $ for GBP / Euros are getting such a poor deal that it limits the savings on purchases ... I would price the bag you want then price it when you get to Paris .... if it%26#39;s cheaper - Great! If it%26#39;s not then it%26#39;s somehting to look forward to when you get home ... I would bet that it%26#39;s cheaper in Paris though ... Every single item I%26#39;ve purchased in N.Y / L.A has always ended up cheaper in Europe ...

Without a doubt, the Louis Vuitton will be cheaper if you buy it there vs. the United States. Since you%26#39;re in Canada, I%26#39;m not sure what the exchange rate will be but I bought my bag in Paris on July 12th, the exhange rate at the time was $1.30 for one Euro and my bag was still a hundred dollars cheaper after the conversion rate. In the U.S., the bag is $665 but in Paris it was 410 Euro, so the conversion rate was about $569 US dollars, plus I am getting 12% of the VAT back, which will be 50 Euro, so about $75 U.S. dollars. When it%26#39;s all said and done, I will have saved about $150 to $160 on my bag. Also, the price in Paris is the price, there%26#39;s no additional tax like in the U.S.

The sales associates at LV are very helpful, they will complete the VAT form for you and all you%26#39;ll need to do is hand it into the VAT custom agents at the airport. I opted for the credit card refund instead of cash.

At LV on the Champs, look for the greeters with the red scarves, as they will seek out a sales associate for you, don%26#39;t just go up to a sales associate expecting to get help. It%26#39;s a mad-house in there, so I think it%26#39;s easier for them to weed out the lookiloos and real buyers.
