My husband and I will be arriving in Nice by car from Paris on June 24. We will only be staying one night, and will be leaving on an 8 am car ferry to Corsica. I have read many good things on this board about Hotel Rex, but I am wondering if anyone knows how tough it would be to park overnight in Nice without getting hit with a 30 Euro garage fee, or driving around for a long time. We live in San Francisco, so we know what a nightmare parking can be.
Alternately, we could stay at the Hotel Floride, which is slightly out of the center, but has it%26#39;s own garage.

Howdy Huddles,
Just to give you a little info on the Hotel Floride. My wife and I have been staying at the Floride more than once a year since 1999. It is situated in the charming section of Nice known as Cimiez. This family owned Hotel is not elaborate ,but charming. They have a great dog named Swan, who will definitely say hello. The parking is located in the back of the Hotel, and the ride into town is a piece of cake. If you get there early enough in the day, you are situated between the Matisse and Picasso museums. But for such a short stay, you might want to just stroll the town. We%26#39;ll be staying at the Hotel from June 12th till the 27th, so if you get a chance, say Hi. They also have a great Breakfast Room, with some yummy eats. A few euros more. Whatever, enjoy!

Thanks, Funkster, for your recommendation. I was just waiting for something to push me over the edge to the Hotel Floride. It would be great to say thanks in person -- I%26#39;m Gail Rixford.

Dear Gail,
Glad to hear that the Floride will most likely be your choice. It%26#39;s located on the beautiful tree lined Blvd. de Cimiez. and the architecture of some of the older buildings in the area are quite impressive. The advantage of the over night parking as part of the rate, which I might add is so reasonable is great. Looking forward to saying hello as well. Safe trip!

Dear Huddles
My wife and I will be doing a similar trip to you - arriving for 1 night in Nice before catching very early ferry to Corsica. How did it work for you? Is it easy to get to the port from Hotel Floride? Where did you dine the night before? We%26#39;re ferrying with SNCM to Calvi. How was your sea journey?
So many questions! Sorry!
Thanks for any help you or others can give

Hi There, I%26#39;m jealous that you%26#39;re off to Corsica. We had such a wonderful time. You%26#39;d be wise to prepare for hot weather, though. It was scorching hot even in June.
We ended up staying at the Hotel Floride, and really enjoyed it. The guy at the desk was very kind, and we had a nice view of the town from our window. The rooms and bathroom are quite small, though, but adequate and pleasant.
We arrived rather late, and had a simple meal of poulet frites and salade Nicoise in the old town. It was fine, but nothing great. Atmospheric, though, as the world cup games were on TV. The old town over seemed pretty touristy and unappealing (to me), but there was one seafood restaurant on the edge of this area that looked quite good. I%26#39;ll try to dig up the name and post it later.
We had no trouble making it down to the ferry in the morning, although we took Corsica Ferries, and they may leave from a slightly different location than the line you%26#39;ve chosen. The sea journey was easy and calm, with seats inside, and space on deck. I hope I%26#39;ve answered your questions -- if not, feel free to write back.

Funkster, if you%26#39;re still out there, I just wanted to thank you for sending us in the direction of Hotel Floride. As posted above, we really did enjoy it, and it made our one night stay in Nice much easier than anticipated.
Sorry we didn%26#39;t run into you there on our short visit.

Howdy Gail,
Sorry as well that we couldn%26#39;t connect, but so happy that everything turned out okay. I had asked Stephane at the front desk the next morning, but he told me that you left rather early. Hope you had a great trip, and that you%26#39;re filled with some great memories. If you%26#39;re ever in New York, and need a Cook%26#39;s tour, just email me at Brucef1934@aol.com, and I%26#39;ll put together an itinerary. My kinda town New York is.
All the best,
Bruce
