Minerve Hotel or Les Degres de Notre Dame?

Not sure which hotel to choose. I know both are in a great location. Just looking for a clean, simple hotel and both of those seem to be what I%26#39;m looking for. The no a/c or elevator don%26#39;t at Les Degres doesn%26#39;t bother me. I%26#39;ll be visiting in October. Which would you recommend?

Haven%26#39;t stayed at either one...

If the price / location / amenities / user comments are all so closely aligned, you%26#39;ll just have to make a decision !

I would re-read all the reviews between the two, looking for clues regarding:

- cleanliness

- transportation ease

- noise at night

- staff

also, a minibar/frigo is a make-or-break deal for me.

Last month I stayed at Hotel Minerve%26#39;s cheaper sister hotel next door - the Familia. I would heartily recommend the Hotel Minerve. Both are owned by the same family. The owner (Eric Gaucheron) and staff were charming and extremely helpful, especially on our departure day when my daughter had an eye infection. Great price, great location.

I have stayed in many different hotels in Paris and will stay at the Minerve next time.

If you stay at the Minerve request a street-facing room with balcony.

Hi Aw7, I stayed for five nights at Les Degres in February 2005 and I thought it was a great hotel but I did find the walk up the stairs at night to the 4th floor (5th I believe in US terms) to my room, #47 a bit daunting and like another reviewer often wished I was staying on the 2nd in room 24. I posted a review on TA with photos of room 47 in April 2005 entitled %26quot;Perfect location, nice rooms and friendly staff%26quot; which covers most of the criteria suggested by travelnutty:

There was no minibar or fridge but that is not one of my requirements, since you are not supposed to eat in the room (well I ate chocolates and think that is ok) and I drink red wine so did not need a fridge. I suspect that the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors at the front (Nos 11, 12 and 24) and even those on higher floors (36 and 48) might be a bit noisy at night in warmer weather if you open the window because of the outdoor terrace at the front of the restaurant on the ground floor which is open very late (in fact pretty much 24/6 - not Sunday - I believe).

Prices have gone up since then and I believe #47, which was 100 Euros including breakfast in February 2005, is now 140 Euros incl bfast, mainly due to the demand for its view of the front towers of Notre Dame (shown in the photo on the upper right on the %26quot;rooms%26quot; page on the hotel%26#39;s website) - caused alas by reviews like mine. For 100 Euros it was a great view but if I went back I would go for one of the big rooms on the front (24, 36, 48) which are the same price or less and just enjoy the view of Notre Dame about 100 metres away from outside the hotel.

If you want the view from the room and are prepared to walk another floor to the 5th, the huge room 501 that covers the whole upper attic floor (shown in the 3rd photo down on the left on the rooms page of the website) is only 160 Euros (incl bfast) and has a better view of Notre Dame plus windows over the street at the front and I believe it also has a kitchenette, which may mean it has a small fridge.
