Vous plaisantez ~ non? Internet bill.

We just got the bill from France Telecom: € 958.00

They installed an ethernet modem four the month of June (in Cannes). How could this possibly be right? It%26#39;s pure robbery I would have thought.

1 forfait ADSL 16-60 jours modem ethernet € 731.00

1 identifiante internet haut debit € 70.00

Montant total T.V.A. € 157.00

Anyone else have this experience? We%26#39;ll pay it of course, but I need some answers to questions I don%26#39;t even know ask.

The Rental Agency arranged it for us, but in our name, and we had no idea that this could be the cost in the heart of Europe.

I%26#39;d be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this.

I%26#39;m bumping my own post in the hopes that some %26quot;locals%26quot; might see it and be able to tell me if :

€ 731.00 is the %26quot;norm%26quot; for having an ethernet modem for 16-60 days?

It just seems astronomically high to me. (I pay less than $ 50 per month elsewhere, including Sweden).

Please ~ you Local Experts ~ can this really be the going rate for France Telecom? I can understand that the installation fee (€157.00) may be a mandatory expense. But if the total (€958.00) had been applied to 16 days say, it would work out to nearly 60 Euros a day. Do people in France really pay that kind of money for internet access?

No that makes no sense. What did you sign up for? Wanadoo/Orange/FT should only be about 40 euros a month. BUT if you only requested it for one month you may have gotten some odd tariff.

Thank you MorganB ~

We didn%26#39;t apply for it ourselves, the Rental Agency just organized for France Telecom to arrive and install the modem. The cost was not mentioned at all ~ in fact I%26#39;m surprised that France Telecom would trust visitors and then bill them to their home address thousands of miles away, (as opposed to billing it to the agency).

The high cost makes no sense and as you queried, what kind of tariff were they using? That will be one of my questions to the agency. It seems careless. I appreciate your response.
