Halle Tony Garnier

Bonjour :) I am an American traveling to France for the first time in September/October, and I would like to include in my trip a train ride to Lyon to see George Michael in concert at Halle Tony Garnier, October 2. Is there anything special I should know, a neighborhood I should look for lodging in, things like this? I would like to stay in a pension/chambre d%26#39;hote if possible, not a large or chain hotel, as I am a young person doing France on a budget. Thank you all for any tips you can provide, I can%26#39;t wait for my trip!

For your TGV trip to Lyons you will be able to buy deeply discounted advance purchase tickets on the SNCF (French rail) site. You can only book up to 90 days before your travel date, but you should do so as soon as possible within that window to get the best selection of trains and the lowest prices. You should read MorganB%26#39;s post on how to use the SNCF site before you try to buy your tickets. The SNCF site is a bit confusing for first time users and this post will really help you. You can use it now to research times for the trains that will suit you, but you won%26#39;t be able to purchase your tickets until early July.

Sorry but I can%26#39;t help with the hotel question. Others will doubtless have some suggestions for you.

BTW, September and October are both very busy months for trade shows and the like in Paris, so many hotels especially in the better locations get booked up well in advance. You might want to take that into account if you are planning to spend part of your time there - and why would you not?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I do plan to spend the bulk of my time in Paris, and I didn%26#39;t know that about the trade shows, so that is a good tip. For anyone else who answers about Lyon, I was also wondering about the concert venue itself. There are very few pictures on the website, and I can%26#39;t find things like reviews or seating charts. Does anyone know what kind of place it is, easy to navigate to, what the seats and the sound is like, etc? Thank you again, I enjoy this forum already!
