Auctions/Priceline: a good idea for saving $ 7 nt stay?

I use Priceline for trips in the U.S.; Is it a good idea for a 7 night stay in Paris?

I have prices from hotels directly.

We are going to be there in less than two weeks.

We haven%26#39;t received any discount for staying 7 nights or for %26quot;Last Minute%26quot;.

Some hotels have offered a 10% discount for any stays in August.

Are there good discount hotel sites or is it a good idea to try Priceline?

Thank you hugely!

I used Priceline to book our hotel for our September trip and I got a four star hotel called Novotel in the heart of Paris. It looks as if the hotel has been completely remodeled and the reviews have been great since the remodel. We are paying $130 US a night. I think its a great deal for Paris. The only thing that I am dissapointed in is that it is a newer hotel and not necessarily older. Good luck!

From what I understand, Priceline works mostly with larger chain hotels (such as the Novotel). You can get a nice boutique hotel in central Paris for not much money. Check some web sites, there are a lot of last minute offers or August offers.

I would check:

Hotel Britannique (1st)

Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche (5th)

Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais (4th)

Hotel de Lutece (4th)

Hotel de Varenne (7th)

Hotel Muguet (7th)

We%26#39;ve used Priceline for hotels in Paris a few times and had good results. I%26#39;d recommend doing some homework on a site such as www.biddingfortravel.com first. On that site, you can see what hotels other posters have been %26quot;awarded%26quot; lately, for how much, and in what areas. Double check the hotel reviews on that site and this one. Armed with that info, you can better decide if it%26#39;s worth it for you. We%26#39;ve gotten the Hilton Tour Eiffel for $95 a night, and Novotel Les Halles for $120. Both times I breathed a huge sigh of relief, because they could have easily put us in hotels in the same zones that had gotten a lot of bad reviews. It is a gamble. We opted to take it and saved hundreds of dollars and had really nice rooms, but the experience could have easily been a nightmare.
