Just returned from a lovely weekend in Bordeaux. Weather was dreadful but we made the best of it. We stayed at the Quality Hotel Ste-Catherine. Hotel was fine, quite simple but clean and in a fantastic location. Staff were very helpful. I would recommend Restaurant Karl (for breakfast and/or brunch)in the Place du Parlement and the Pizzeria and Cafe 07 on the same street as the Hotel. Coffee and croissants in the Cafe Regent was yummy! Shopping was great on the Rue Ste-Catherine - lovely jeans for 12euro!! A word of warning about taxis from the airport into Bordeaux. Our driver drove like a maniac despite us asking him to slow down. It really was nerve-wracking. At the end of the journey the meter said 45 euro but he charged us 55 euro saying it was extra airport tax etc etc. We tried to argue but to no avail. We paid, but were extremely angry about it. When we later told the Hotel receptionist, she said, and I quote %26quot;sometimes they charge what they like%26quot;. But I suppose you get drivers like this at every major airport.. All in all, Bordeaux is a wonderful city and I plan to return later this year.

Try to agree on the fare before you hire.

Like I mentioned in my a wonderful city piece.
Use the buses from the Airport!!
Less than ten Euros one way.

I agree with both posts. I did feel really foolish for not agreeing fare with the taxi driver beforehand, but we just missed the bus and didn%26#39;t feel like waiting around for the next one. But, next time I will definitely wait for the bus, regardless of how long it takes !!

Hi can you tell me how close your hotel was to the train station? Time wise and distance wise? Ideally, I%26#39;d like it to be a bus stop away...
Thanks

The Hotel mentioned is about five minutes or so from Tram station
on foot.
Next door to tourist information centre.
About four stops on tram or ten minutes from Railway station.
I used it to when I left to get bus to Airport which goes from next to railway station.
Have no worries about public transport in Bordeaux it%26#39;s one of the best systems anywhere I%26#39;ve been in the world.

What is the recommended way to go from the Airport to the hotel de Normandie on 7 et 9 cours du XXX Juillet? I%26#39;d appreciate any feedback. Thank you
|||
Take the Jet Bus shuttle. It stops at the Bordeaux Tourist Office which is just across the street from the Normandie.

Once again, thank you!
