My fiance and I are going to Nice for 4 days in September. Can anyone suggest ideas for things to do, places to eat and things to see.
Also i am feeling bewildered with reagrds to hotels. There is so much choice. We are on the budget end of the scale, but would like to be near the beach. What areas should I be looking for.
Thanks so much.

lets start with hotels, i would recommend Regence or Paradis, both within 5 minutes of the promenade and 10 minutes of old town and flower market areas, also many restaurants within a few metres, both situated in pedestrian areas.
The hotels on the promenade are mostly over £100 per night, the two i mention vary from 40-60 depending on room type etc.

If I were you I would do a search on the Nice forum for %26quot;things to do in Nice%26quot;. A lot of the %26quot;experts%26quot;, won%26#39;t even bother to reply to questions that have already been posted before. I am not an expert. I was in your situation prior to my trip to Nice at the beginning of this month. I don%26#39;t travel a lot either. My best advice to you is to do the search, read as much as you can, and go from there. I posted one question and only got 2 responses. Look at the post from carim
Nice %26quot;must see%26quot;, this person is already received 11 responses, I was one of them. You will find many places to eat, read the menus posted outside the restaurants to decide whether you want to eat there or not. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Some places are good some aren%26#39;t, I%26#39;m sure it is the same where you live. Read the reviews from travelers about the different hotels this site offers, I found this to be very helpful.
Do your homework!! READ, READ, READ!!

With 4 days to spend, I suggest spending most of the time in Nice itself - explore the food and flower market on Cours Saleya, the Vielle Ville, the Chateau. Stroll the Promenade des Anglais, people watch - in short, just absorb the ambience and culture of the city. If you enjoy art, visit the Musée Matisse and the Museum of Contemporary Arts. A stroll along the Bas Corniche to Villefranche is a lovely walk with superb views. Visits to Monaco and Cannes are easy half-day trips by train.
I always stay at one of the Citadines Apart%26#39;Hotels. They are both within 5 minutes of the Promenade des Anglais. My favourite restaurants are:
Le Lunel, quai Lunel
Acchiardo, rue Droite
Chez Davia, rue Grimaldi
La Table Alziari, rue François-Zanin
La Tapenade, rue Sainte-Réparate

Thank you so much!!
Which would be better CANNES or Monaco, we were thinking monaco.
Plus we just found out how cheap the trains are.

Greetings,
Since you%26#39;ll only be in Nice for 4 days, I would recommend deciding on either Cannes or Monaco, not both. You%26#39;re going to have too much to do and see in Nice.
If you%26#39;re both beach people, then I%26#39;d lean towards Cannes with great sand beaches, contrary to Monaco, which are pebbles, and truly uncomfortable.
In Cannes you have two major strolling streets, the rue De La Croisette, with shops not within most peoples budgets, and Hotels that you should just wander in their lobbies, ie: the Carlton, the Majestic, and the Martinez, to see how the rich and famous live, and you also have the rue d%26#39;Antibes, which is a street with shops that are more reasonable. A drink in one of the cafes late in the afternoon on the Croisette though, would be a real treat.
Monaco on the other hand is another experience, with the same kind of wealth, plus a world famous casino. Most people visiting this beautiful Principality, seem to overlook 3 special things that are truly worthwhile. 1, is the daily changing of the guard at the royal palace at 11:55 AM, a very impressive ceremony, 2, is a visit to the Jardin Exotique, a wonderland of plants, including at least a thousand cacti, to give you an idea of the specialness of the garden, and finally,3, and probably the most impressive is the Musee Oceanographique. This museum, built into the side of the seawall, houses a huge aquarium, with more than 60 giant tanks that house everything from the most colorful tropical and exotic fish to huge sharks. A must not miss!
That%26#39;s it! Your choice! Whatever, enjoy!
