Where to go after Avignon?

I%26#39;ll be staying in Avignon for a week and then want to do a few days somewhere else before heading to Paris. Any suggestions? Is Aix worth a few days? I%26#39;ve heard it isn%26#39;t that safe -- did anyone experience that?

Aix is quite safe. Will you have a car? Otherwise, take the train to Arles.
