Can anyone help me? I am arriving into Cherbourg one Friday evevning in August and am looking for a stopover. This will be a break for my wedding anniversary so I am looking for somewhere romantic! Could anyone give me an idea of what Cherbourg is like? Is it industrial or quaint? Could anyone recommend accomodation in the area or elsewhere in Basse Normandie? Very grateful for any ideas! Cherbourg is a fishing port and ferry port - it is not particularly attractive. I would definitely travel further down the peninsular for something more romantic. Le Vieux Chateau at Bricqubec (about 20 minutes from Cherbourg) is very nice and they really do have suits of armour in the dining room!
