Does anyone know if you can take photos in the Catacombs of Paris?
Thanks

Sure you can. Take a look at these: pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/solosks/my_photos
I also strongly suggest that you bring a flashlight to the catacombs

When I was there in April, they did not allow flash photography, but did let you take pictures. There were some areas that were lighted, giving some good photographic opportunites.
They seem to be very respectful of the remains; they check handbags, etc. going out -I gues they want to make sure no one is removing any bones.
By all means, bring a flashlight. It is dark, and the walking surface is uneven. But if you want to see off-beat Paris, by all means visit the Catacombs.

Definitely %26quot;No Flash%26quot; in the catacombs. There are quite a few signs as well as employees %26quot;patrolling%26quot;. If your camera is decent, just rest it against something and hold still and you can get some great photos.

My experience was quite different. The employees in the Catacombs were more than happy to take flash photos of me this past February.

I wonder if the %26quot;flash permitted%26quot; is new. I was there in July of last year and it was definitely 100% off limits. There was a family in front of us and they got yelled at a lot and there were numerous signs.
I can%26#39;t imagine the flash would deteriorate the bones, so I can only imagine it was out of respect that they didn%26#39;t allow it. I would have liked to have used my flash, that%26#39;s for sure.

Hey Kirk, Hey Mimi,
Well, if you saw my photos (pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/solosks/my_photos) obivously I used a flash.
That was in February.

The wife and i were there last Sept. and took pictures with the flash and saw many that did also...not a word said about it except we were all searched@ the end to see if we were taking any souvenirs.
A little creepy if you ask me why would anybody want to...
Safe Travels...Jimmy

We%26#39;ll be in Paris in Sept an my husband really wants to see the catacombs. But I was under the impression that is was %26quot;illegal%26quot; to go into the catacombs. Is it a tour ? Can someone please tell me where to go for the tour, or website for info?
Thanks, Jodi : )

Here are 2 websites with describing the Catacombes.
If you have never seen anything like this, it is definitely worth a visit. Bring a small penlight for better inspecting.

I hope people do remember that these are still gravesites, not just a Disneyesque thrill, and to be respectful.
There are the Paris Catacombs at Denfert-Rochereau, which are the ones you can visit... and then there are the remainder of the network of underground tunnels, which are closed to the public and are illegal to access (though some %26#39;adventurers%26#39; do so at their own risk). It is most likely the latter that your husband is thinking of.
