I am planning a trip to France in Aug. I am traveling solo and do not speak any French.
I plan to stay in Paris then head to Provence via train and then plan to rent a car - thinking of staying at Hostellerie le Crillon le Brave- I think it is roughly 45 minutes from Avignon by car.
Do you think traveling by car will be a problem for someone that does not speak any French? Are the roads marked?
My friend recommended Aix-en Provence for it is a good base, any recommendations?
Need help in planning

The Crillion le Brave is a marvelous hotel, and I%26#39;m sure you will have a fine time.
Driving is a pleasure. Just get a good map. The roads are well marked.
Parking in Aix is very difficult, so if you stay there make sure the hotel provides it. Personally I%26#39;d prefer one of the villages in the area.

Thank you Francophool for your advice. What areas do you recommend since I am still in the planning stages? I am pretty open to recommendations... looking for great, relaxing hotel base with comforty beds beautiful surroundings and will provide me to take days trips.

To be honest, I wouldn%26#39;t recommend staying at the Hostellerie de Crillon le Brave. The village isn%26#39;t close to much of anything, which means you will spend a lot of time going out on and returning from day trips. Also, because eating at the hotel%26#39;s restaurant is one of the few options, you could end up spending a lot on meals.

We love the Hostellerie with its view to Mont Ventoux.
It is pretty isolated but having stayed in the area every year for 13 years (sometimes at the Hostellerie) there are many places to visit from there and loads of restaurants to suit all budgets.
Bedoin a small village just up the road at the foot of Mont Ventoux has to my mind one of the nicest Provencial markets in the area every Monday. It also has several bars and restaurants to sit and people watch.
Crillon is accessable to the Cotes du Rhone villages for wine sampling (difficult I appreciate if you are the sole driver) but the villages all have their own character.
Avignon as you say is 45 minutes away. It used to be easy to park in Avignon but reciently we have been finding it slightly more difficult .
The Luberon National Park is also a short drive away with its hill villages and Chateaux.
It really depends on what you want. Personally we love to stay at hotels like the Hostellerie taking excursions to the surrounding area before comming back to relax by the pool with a cold drink, a good book and the magnificent view of Mont Ventoux
