For any Tour fans or spectators out there, there is bad news on the pro cycling front. As of today, some of the most important figures in cycling and many of the contenders for the Tour de France title are now headed to their respective homes as a massive drug conspiracy clouds the start of the Tour. No Jan Ullrich. No Ivan Basso. No Jose Mancebo.
This year%26#39;s Tour is a bust. Sure, there will still be racing, but many of the sports heros are gone...cloaked in shame. A sad, sad, sad day for cycling.

underhill - go to www.cyclingnews.com or www.velonews.com or even eurosport.com.
As for the other comment - That%26#39;s just an ignorant thing to say. The Tour is one of the world%26#39;s great events. I%26#39;m not a fan of soccer, but I%26#39;d never say, %26quot;it%26#39;s just a bunch of guys kick%26#39;n a ball.%26quot; Nor would I say, %26quot;the grand prix of Monoco is just guys driving cars.%26quot;
Obviously it%26#39;s been a while since you rode a bike.

Thanks, Quitou. We were really looking forward to what should have been a great race. Very, very sad.

How do you know when I last rode a bike? I just don%26#39;t expect people to heap praise on me because I am doing so. I am not a sports fan, but I can see that people playing soccer, baseball, tennis, etc. require alot of skill, practice, and natural ability to be really good. How difficult is it to ride a bike? It is basically a marathon on wheels. I admire the tenacity of people who join marathons, BUT I wouldn%26#39;t place that event above any other marathon., whether people are walking, running, or cycling.
|||
By the way, watching bike races is like watching people gamble on television. The participants are having an exciting time, but it is like watching grass grow for the audience, lol.
|||
There%26#39;s general agreement that pro cycling is the most demanding of all sports. How far do you think you could go at the speeds those guys travel?

Alanabayarea - Please, for your own sake, stop. If you encounter a subject matter that you don%26#39;t know much about...don%26#39;t comment on it. You obviously know nothing of cycling, racing or even marathons for that matter. To compare a marathon to the Tour is silliness. One is running 26.2 miles in one day. Hell, Oprah can do it. The Tour de France is 2,300 miles over the Alps and Pyranees averaging over 125 miles a day at almost 30mph. Here%26#39;s another look - a marathon burns anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 calaries. The Tour de France burns roughly 125,000 calories.
As someone who%26#39;s ridden more than 545 bike races in my life, I%26#39;d say you need to hit the bike my lady friend. Go ride twenty miles and tell me it was easy.

we are stunned -- we saw Lance come in the year he
broke the record -- what a thrill
and this year we were all set to root for Basso --
Just stunning

....and for those who really follow the sport closely, it is nearly impossible to ignore the fact that Lance Armstrong very likely was doped as well. Sad, I know, but where there is smoke there is often fire and Lance is always close to the smoke.
