Hi sanjoy
Best thing you can do is to buy a good guidebook, e.g. the Eyewitness Travel Guide Paris, which have many colour photos of attractions and sight, plus %26quot;3D-maps%26quot; over the different quartiers - and then make your to-do list after that.
Can be bought at www.amazon.com:

If you can spend the money, hire Michael Osman for at least one day ($100 plus lunch for 8-9 hours) Parisfind@aol.com. Give him an idea of what you want to do and he will get you there faster and with a lot more knowledge than you can get from a book. For example, use him to learn the metro/bus system, or go out of the city ,around the city, or to the Louvre.
Go to the top of the E. Tower, go to the Louvre, D%26#39;Orsay, Versaille, shopping in a department store with a food mart (Bon Marche), Sacre Couer at vespers, Notre Dame for early mass,....

I was in Paris this past June, and our 5 days were:
Day One: Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle, Latin Quarter for dinner
Day Two: Louvre, Sacre-Coeur, dinner in Montmartre
Day Three: Musee d%26#39;Orsay, Galerie Lafayette (shopping), Arc de Triomphe, dinner and walking along Champs Elysees
Day Four: Centre Pompidou, Jardin du Luxembourg, Eiffel Tower (we did this at night and the lights were spectacular)
Day Five: Orangerie Museum, Jardin des Tuileries, more shoppping (Bon Marche), dinner in Montparnasse
As you can see, we like museums, and I am happy we included 4 during our trip. Hope you have a wonderful trip!
