Visiting Paris in February and need some advice on areas

I am visiting with my wife and would like some advice on areas to stay/not to stay so that we can narrow our search.

We%26#39;ve been to Paris before although largely focused on the Eiffel Tower etc.

This time we want to be within easy reach of Montmarte/Sacre Couer.

Has anyone got any advice on where to stay which is good for getting about as we are in our 50%26#39;s. We obviously don%26#39;t want hostel accomodation but don%26#39;t want anything stupidly expensive.

What is the Montmarte area actuall like? I%26#39;m hearing differing reports.

If you stay around the Abbesses or Lamarck-Caulaincourt stops, the neighborhoods are nice and authentic-feeling... avoid the area to the east and north/east of Sacre-Coeur... Also, if you stay around Pigalle-Clichy stops, you%26#39;re in the area where there are some %26#39;clubs%26#39;, s_x shops, etc. Nothing dangerous, just maybe not the atmosphere you are wanting...

A great and %26#39;real%26#39; Parisian neighborhood lies in the 9th arrondissement, south of Blvd Clichy, particular the streets off rue des Martyrs, around metro stops Trinite, St Georges, Notre-Dame-de-Lorette...

Hi Winslow

Apart from the most touristy area of Place de Tertre it is a really nice area and there is a secret society on this TA forum (sadly I am not a member but I think GitteK is) that prefer to stay there rather than near the Seine. Here is a hotel in the area that has a very good reputation and is well priced
