staying at the hotel beau rivage...sept. 7-11th

This will be our first trip to Nice...hopefully we have chosen a well situated hotel and an overall nice place. It is our 10th anniversary and my wife has no idea that we are even going...she thinks I%26#39;m taking her to Pheonix! Anyway, any suggestions on what we should do on such a short trip?

Actually, I haven%26#39;t booked the Beau Rivage as of yet....I%26#39;m looking at the Hotel Suisse. Thoughts on that?

My suggestion is to read the reviews in tripadvisor for both hotels. The Beau Rivage looks to be well situated. I just returned from my second stay in Nice. I stayed both times at the Suisse. It is well known for it%26#39;s fabulous views! If you stay there, be sure to get a superior or privelege room with a balcony. Be aware however, that it is not a luxury hotel. The rooms are very simple and small by American standards. But I love the location, close to the old town and the port. You didn%26#39;t mention when you%26#39;ll be there or for how long. But I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll love it. I posted my trip report and there%26#39;s a few other recent reports that you should read.

Best wishes.

Oops, sorry I didn%26#39;t see that you put your dates in your topic.

What a wonderful surprise for your wife! My husband and I have booked the Beau Rivage for late Oct. I read most of the reviews about the BV -- the huge majority were very positive with the few exceptions mostly about the alleged %26quot;rudenenss%26quot; of the staff. I didn%26#39;t let the few negative reports scare me off - they%26#39;re is always someone who doesn%26#39;t like something. The location looks great and we love to walk and explore.

Do post when you get back and let us know your opinion. And of course, bon voyage!

** While we%26#39;re in Nice, we plan to visit Grasse and Gourdon. Both are in the %26quot;hills%26quot; high above the Riveria.

We thoroughly disliked the Beau Rivage--it felt more like being in a Middle European hotel than one in Provence. Everything is minimalist décor, with grey or brown walls, and rooms at the front are extremely noisy at night. We had great hopes of the hotel, but the pictures on the web site make the rooms look considerably larger than they are, and the halls are quite hot: no a/c, apparently. But the location is excellent, as are the beds--but you%26#39;ll find that the only bedding is a duvet, not exactly suitable for the summer months.

By the time you get to Phoenix, you would be better off in Villefranche-su-Mer just 2.5 miles the Monaco side of Nice with frequent public transport if you don%26#39;t want to walk! There is a small Villa Hotel just re-opened which you will find on this site or e-mail me at alanpower@wanadoo.fr.

Happy Holidays!

I keeping hearing about Villefranche-su-Mer ...but it is outside of Nice, correct? We aren%26#39;t renting a car and we did want to wonder the streets and enjoy Nice. We are looking for a great location, nice accomodations (4 star), a bed that you can sleep in all day, and access to a private beach. We are going to walk, eat, drink, lay in the sun, relax and generally explore a bit. We are just looking for a really nice home base with a view, if possible. Help?

|||

I don%26#39;t believe that Villefranche has any 4-star hotels. You%26#39;ll find those primarily in Nice, St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and Cannes.

And Antibes, too.
