Some questions on the Flor Rivoli hotel

Thanks to recommendations on here I think have now narrowed it down to the Flor Rivoli for our stay rather than L%26#39; Esperance in Paris in November as it seems more %26#39;central%26#39; (and is only 7E more).

I just have a few questions if someone could help please -

1) Are there safes in the hotel?

2) Are there plenty of cafes for breakfast in the vicinity?

3) How close is the nearest metro, train or bus stop to the hotel and is it %26#39;main%26#39; route for most attractions?

4) What%26#39;s the best way to get to the hotel from CDG?

Also, are street maps widely available and if so, where can we buy them?

Thanks.

P.S. - I liked the look (and reviews) of L%26#39; Esperance but it seemed more complicated to get out and about on the metro from there.

1) Are there safes in the hotel?

the French description of the rooms mentions %26quot;coffre fort%26quot; (strong box) which would be a safe (it isn%26#39;t mentioned on the English version

2) Are there plenty of cafes for breakfast in the vicinity?

Your hotel breakfast is only 6€, which is actually a pretty good deal, as long as the breads are fresh. You might go ahead and try it your first morning. Be sure to tell the hotel if you decide -not- to take breakfast, so there is no misunderstanding. Most breakfast servers %26#39;track%26#39; each morning that you are served by asking for your room number.

There is a cafe next door to your hotel (you can see the picture on PagesJaunes.fr) called Cafe au Metro. Otherwise there are, like, a 100 cafes in a 6-block radius. There is a boulangerie Paul at 70 rue de Rivoli, and no shortage of places trying to sell breakfast around Rivoli, Chatelet, etc.

3) How close is the nearest metro, train or bus stop to the hotel and is it %26#39;main%26#39; route for most attractions?

HERE is a map showing hotel, metro and bus stops:

One of them is Chatelet, one of the largest correspondence stations in Paris, so yes, main routes.

4) What%26#39;s the best way to get to the hotel from CDG?

The %26#39;best%26#39; way is to take a taxi. The %26#39;cheapest%26#39; way is to take the RER to Gare du Nord, then change to Metro Line 4 to Chatelet. The easier it is, the more it costs...

Also, are street maps widely available and if so, where can we buy them?

Most hotels have free paper maps that are decent. If you want to buy a really good map/booklet, go to any of the newstands you see by the curb and buy a small dark-blue booklet called %26quot;Paris par Arrondissements%26quot; for around 6-7€. It breaks up into arrondissements, has a street index, and shows where the metro stops are, and fits into most pockets.

Sorry to correct you, travelnutty - but the RER line B frome CDG goes all the way down to Cité Universitaire - and it also stops at Chatelet-les-Halles (and St. Mich and Luxembourg and Port Royal and Denfert-Rochereau).

I know because I got off at Chatelet in May - and managed to get myself completely lost in the f*cking Forum des Halles, hauling my heavy suitcase, asking everybody for an exit - looking like a complete idiot........

|||

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies guys.

That map is great TravelNutty.

Gittek - if there%26#39;s a RER line that goes all the way from CDG without us having to change, we%26#39;ll probably just take that then and walk from there to the hotel.

|||

You can do that - but DON%26#39;T take the exit from the station marked Forum-Les-Halles....... Pick any one of the other exits and consult your map....

|||

Yes, of course you are right - the RER does indeed pass through Chatelet-les Halles. However it looks like the metro station to Chatelet (not les Halles) is closer to the hotel. But I imagine the OP will either walk within Gare du Nord from RER to Metro, or walk a block or two more from les Halles, probably same difference. Chatelet -les Halles is very very huge and very confusing. I find changing over at Gare du Nord to be a bit easier for a newcomer.

Thanks again TravelNutty - you may be right - we don%26#39;t want to get lost upon arrival!!
