Le Padro? or St Christophe?

I am planning to spend a week in Calvi, alone, waiting for friends to arrive the following week. I have narrowed my choice of hotels down to the two above. Can anyone advise me as to which is the better of the two? I will have a hire car so as long as Le Padron is not too far out of town, I am not bothered by the distance.

Another problem that I think I will encounter is that I actually want eight nights, not seven. Is this likely to be a problem?

Thanks for any advice.

The St. Christophe is lovely, we stayed last August/September, and they have friendly staff so if you are by yourself, that would be a bonus. However, you don%26#39;t say when you are travelling and the St. Christophe now gets booked up very quickly - I tried to book a week in September earlier this year but they were fully booked. I think Holiday Options takes a fair few rooms and the other guests appeared to be French.

Don%26#39;t know Le Padro I%26#39;m afraid.

Probably best to e-mail the St. Christophe and check availability.

Good luck !

Don%26#39;t know Le Padron either. But I have been checking availability (for a friend) and I am afraid that if it%26#39;s for this summer, there doesn%26#39;t appear to be anything available until October.

Message for w62 - so will you be going back to Corsica next year, I think once you have been there a few times it keeps drawing you back .... did your OH enjoy himself too ?

Corsica seems to be getting more popular (perhaps unfortunately), have talked to various people this year who are either visiting Corsica or know someone who is. Hmm. When we used to go there on holiday late 80s %26amp; early 90s people used to say Corsica, how unusual ...

Surprised to hear that Calvi was relatively quiet in early July though ? Perhaps it was just before the big holiday rush mid July to end of August. First week of October going to very quiet I think.

Regards, White-family.

I would love to go back next year - OH adored the place but says we can%26#39;t go EVERY year. (Boo hiss) However, he has promised that we don%26#39;t have to leave it 10 yrs again so we are looking to go back in 2008. I reckon I will go to Calvi again - probably A Merula in fact.

I was surprised too that Calvi wasn%26#39;t chock full of Italians. The tour guide even mentioned it. She said that they were all waiting for the influx to begin but so far it hadn%26#39;t. Maybe it was because of the World Cup. Bet they are all there now though.

I share your concerns that it may get too popular so I haven%26#39;t really %26#39;spread the word%26#39; since I have been back. They should make you sign an official secrets act before you leave prohibiting you from telling anyone in the UK how great it is!

I think that Corsica is still not well known in Britain. I was talking to my hairdresser (as one does) and said that I was going to Corsica for my holidays (next Tuesday, can%26#39;t wait) and she said ooh that sounds nice, but I wouldn%26#39;t want to go somewhere so far away, I prefer somewhere near ...like Spain.

Most people don%26#39;t even know where it is, la plus proche des iles lointaines.

Lucky for us, but not so good maybe for those who seek to make a living from the tourist industry there.

I personally have heard of two honeymoons to Corsica this summer - and there have been a fair few of those on tripadvisor forums too - and another couple of holidays too. A friend has recently come back from a Saga cruise - she was lecturing on the cuisine of each port of call, she%26#39;s not old enough for Saga yet ! - and they stopped somewhere on Corsica, so its on the cruise ship run too which I don%26#39;t think it used to be ?? Well perhaps if Easyjet and Ryanair keep away a bit longer that might help ....

Looks like I will be able to answer my own question. Have booked one night Le Padro and then seven in the St Christophe, in September. Will let you all know my opinions when I return, but thanks for the advice re: St Christophe.

Cruise ships have been visiting Corsica for some time. The much lamented Thomson all-inclusive ship the Topaz called at Ajaccio every two weeks on its Med cruises from Palma. We went on the tour bus visiting the Prunelli gorges close to Ajaccio, which I have recommended before on here. Of all the places we vsited in the Med, we felt the strong urge to return to just one - Corsica! A truly unique holiday destination and long may it remain so.

Sorry 1492 for somewhat straying from your original query. Am pleased to hear you have made your booking OK, can I ask have you got a single room at the St. Christophe ?? Otherwise am wondering why they told me it was full around 2nd week September !

Me too! I have checked with a couple of tour ops and no one could offer St Christophe in September!
