I get the impression that some of you out there view Versailles as a crowded tourist trap, but it%26#39;s our first time, and I just bought tickets to see the fountains on a Sept weekend. For any that have seen them, can you give me some more info? From 11:00 to 12:00 there%26#39;s a %26quot;Grand Perspective%26quot;-does that mean all the fountains are on? From 3:30-5:00 they%26#39;re in an area I can%26#39;t figure out (something to do with groves) Then from 5:20-5:30 there%26#39;s another Grand Perspective and also a finale at the Neptune Basin? If anyone can help I%26#39;d greatly appreciate it; we don%26#39;t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time or miss anything noteworthy. Thank you!

Fountains show is shorter and not too crowded in the norning.
There is more to see in the afternoon, and yes more people attend the show but the gardens are large and you walk around. I have never found it to be unpleasantly crowded.
If you spend the day, you can see all the shows.

Does that mean that on the week-days the fountains are not functioning at all?
We tried to find a schedule but nothing comes up except for the Grands Eaux Show, and we don%26#39;t really want a special show, just want to see the fountains working, like they do every day in St-Petersbourgh for example.
Any info or a link would be greatly appreciated

On weekdays the fountains are not turned on. I%26#39;ve heard that even in Louis XIV%26#39;s day they didn%26#39;t turn them all on at once because they used too much water. They would just turn on fountains as he approached, then turn them off again when he had passed.
On weekdays the gardens are beautiful and not crowded. (And entry is free.) The fountains tie in nicely with the large reflecting pool, and the whole place is so magnificent that I haven%26#39;t missed having the fountains on.
We were there last Saturday for the fountain show from 3:30-5:00. Our group was a little underwhelmed. The classical music was lovely and it was nice to see the fountains on, but I was expecting something a little more spectacular. Even the finale at the Neptune Basin was just recorded music and the fountain spraying. Nice, but not spectacular. There were many more people than I%26#39;ve seen on weekdays, but the gardens are so large that it didn%26#39;t feel crowded. It was like a large city park, with people strolling, picnicking, riding bikes, feeding ducks, eating ice cream, etc.
I%26#39;d recommend renting bikes (very fun!) or taking the trolley to get an overview of the whole gardens. Make some time to see the Petit Trianon and the Hamlet. Then come back toward the palais in time for the fountains to begin. Watch for a little while, then head indoors to tour the palais while the crowds are all outside.

Love 2 travel, how did you purchase your tickets in advance. We have one Sat. in Sept available %26amp; would like to buy tickets from the US now.

londonrookie, I went to the FNAC website, registered with them, and arranged for store pick-up (we%26#39;re planning to stop by the one on Champs Elysses) You first click on %26quot;spectacles%26quot; and then type in Versailles on the search, and all the different shows pop up. So far, they haven%26#39;t deducted my credit card, but I have order numbers. I hope they%26#39;re valid! If not, I guess we%26#39;ll just have to wait in the ticket line at Versailles. You can also choose to have tickets mailed, but there is a 12 euro charge to the USA.

P.S. You probably don%26#39;t need advance tickets to Versailles. I happened to be buying tickets to a concert in Paris, and figured I could just get both at once. The only advantage is not standing in line at Versailles-who knows there%26#39;s probably a line at FNAC too.
We used to live in MD-8 years borderline of Ellicott City and Columbia.

Youmight consider headout out to Versaille in the afternoon and staying for an evening %26quot;spectacle,%26quot; a pageant that end up with amazing fireworks. You can get information at the Versailles ticket office and in some Paris tourist offices.

Yes-I bought tickets for the evening show too-for Sept 2. My husband%26#39;s reponse: Haven%26#39;t you seen enough fireworks?? What can I say-I like Disneyworld!

One can never see too many fireworks! One of these years we%26#39;re going to get to the Nice or Monaco or Toronto fireworks competitions and just glory in them.
