First time in Paris

I%26#39;m considering a suprise trip to Paris with my wife between Xmas and New Year%26#39;s. We are both musicians that love museums, concerts and history. I would really appreciate suggestions for areas/neighborhoods and specific hotels in the $150 per night price range. We will be using public transportation and walking.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

This is a fabulous time to go to Paris.

The town will be decorated and all kinds of activities will happen.

Since you are musicians, why not stay near the Opera Garnier?

Excellent for transportation and within walking distance of l%26#39;Orangerie, Musee d%26#39;Orsay and Louvre. Plus you will get to see all the department stores in their best light.

Le Grand Hotel comes to mind but you may have to struggle to meet your budget.

Otherwise look up the followings:

Hotel Madeleine Opera

Hotel Newton Opera

Hotel de l%26#39;Arcade

Hotel Queen Mary

Hotel Royal Opera

Hotel Bedford

Hotel Flokestone Opera

Hotel Duminy Vendome

Hotel Burgundy

Hotel Opera Garnier

Hotel des Mathurins

Hotel Sidney Opera

All these are within minutes of museums and seconds from piublic transportation.

They are in my neighborhood and I do know them well.

I do not know how old you are but if you are part of the younger crowd, you will be advised to go to the left bank and I guess you should as it is livelier than the right bank where these hotels are I suppose more adjusted for the 40-50 and above, quieter age group.

Have fun!

This is not information about hotels but if you like museums and music, you could check out activities and concerts at the Cité de la Musique (19th) a modern complex with a music school, an auditorium, and a museum of musical instruments, one of the finest collections in Europe.

Hi

My wife and I went to Paris in April and we stayed at TimHotel Tour Eiffel...mostly because of the price :-) We wanted to get something %26quot;cheap%26quot; as we were staying a week. But if your price range is up to 150 $ you should be able to find a decent hotel. Remember to check the feedback from others (here on TA) on the hotels that you are thinking about. I have made a trip report that might be of some interest to you as a first time traveler to Paris. Get in touch on gardkarlsen@hotmail.com and I%26#39;ll send it to you. How long are you planning on staying? Remember that if you are staying for a few days you should think about getting a metro pass (like Carte Orange) so that you can use the metro as much as you want to get around :-)

Regards

Gard
