Myself and my girlfriend are shortly travelling to the Loire Valley for the first time. We are staying in Tours for 6 nights and are planning to hire a car to visit various Chateux and the surrounding towns (Blois, Chinon, Loches etc). Does anybody have any experience of doing the same? I would be really grateful for comments upon how practical it is, and, in particular, on what the parking situation is like in Tours.

I would prefer to stay in a smaller town that is easier to get in and out of, like Amboise. When plotting out what you wish to see, if it looks like you will be going back and forth a lot, it might be wise to just to make a move.
