I will spending five days in Bayeux in early Aug as part of a Juno Beach/ Normandy tour and will be staying at the Chuchill hotel. I would greatly appreciate some dining and shopping suggestions along with what to see on my free time - which will be mostly in the evenings. Also, what%26#39;s the weather like? Thank you.

The Bayeux Tapestry is the principal sight in Bayeux, but we also liked the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Le Petit Bistro is a favorite restaurant of quite a few visitors to the town of Bayeux; it was closed the night we planned to eat there, but we ended up just across the street at a very good Italian restaurant.
If you have a chance, hop over to Honfleur, where there are any number of interesting sights. Our favorite, besides the port, was the wooden Church of St. Catherine.

The museum of the battle of normandy is probably the most comprehensive museum for the whole history of the Normandy invasion rather than just D-Day. It closes at 6pm though so it won%26#39;t be something you can do in the evening. In fact most places close around 6pm. Another good one is the cinema circulaire at Arromanches, about 9km from Bayeux.
Average temperatures in August would be mid-70%26#39;s but at the moment it%26#39;s closer to high 80%26#39;s/low 90%26#39;s - who says there%26#39;s no such thing as global warming!!!!

We%26#39;ve just arrived home from France, where we visited Bayeux (among many other places) and loved it.
As has already been said, the Tapestry and the Cathedral are both must-sees. However the town itself is very pretty. The medieval area is beautifully maintained and definately worth a visit. The town is easily seen by foot (even my 5 year old managed it) and is magnificent.
The weather was wonderful while we were there.

Thank you all for your words of advice. I look forward to my stay.
