My wife and I are flying to Paris for the day for lunch to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I wanted a special restaurant that wasn%26#39;t too %26#39;posh%26#39; or staid - with a lively atmosphere. I booked a table at Alcazar - rue Mazarine. It didn%26#39;t feature in a recent article on the top 50 restaurants in Paris. Did I make the right choice? (Booking is for August 14th 2006).

The ALcazar is not really known for its food. There is an active, trendy bar upstairs that is something of a meat market. I was so turned off by the crowd that I cancelled the dinner reservations and headed elsewhere.
For great food in an unstuffy atmosphere, I like Les Bouquinistes. It is owned by a famous chef, but is his more casual restaurant. My next special night out will be to Gaya, owned by Pierre Gagniere, one of the best chefs in the world today. This is his casualer establishment and specializes in seafood.

Thanks Phread - very helpful.
