We have only a 4 hour lay over in Paris. My husband to see the Eifel Tower, at least just drive by it. Is this even possible in 4 hours?

Hello,
If you are at Charles de Gaulle airport, use RER B trains ( similar to the underground, but faster and fewer stops). It takes you into town in 35 minutes- then change at St -Michel /Notre Dame for RER C, taking you to the Eiffel tower, probably another 10 minutes. In a nutshell, if you play it safe and allow 1 hour each way, you still have 2 hrs in town, but I don%26#39;t know if you will have the time to go up/ down the tower!.
Paris underground map:
www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/carteparis.php
Lots of other things to see on the way. You could use the open-top buses instead once in the city it is called %26quot;Paris L%26#39;OpenTour%26quot; for 25 euros for each pass. The green circuits takes you to the tower, and you go past the Louvres, Orsay etc. Look at their ( notr very good) site http://www.paris-opentour.com/en/parisgt.htm
Looking at the circuit, you can catch it around Notre Dame, so you just leave RER B at notre dame and find their stand outside? HOWEVER I have not seen on the site how long it takes to get from Notre-Dame to The Tower, you should check once you are there.
Hope it help.

I%26#39;m sorry, but I wouldn%26#39;t advise it... it takes 40-50 minutes to get into Paris one-way, even in a taxi... Before your next flight, you must allow sufficient time to go thru any security checks at CDG, which is not known as the most efficient airport... also, there are instances where it takes quite a while just to make your terminal transfers within CDG, for instance if you have to take a bus from the plane to the terminal, etc.

I feel that the previous poster%26#39;s enthusiasm is extremely optimistic to apply to someone who has not been to Paris and is not familiar with train transfers, or where to find anything without much map consultation. Everything takes longer than you think.

Plus, if deezoomo is travelling this summer, the RER C is closed for refurbishments until the end of August between Invalides and Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz.
|||
I would think no, not unless you arrange for a private %26quot;polis%26quot; escort and private transportation. Once it took us three hours to get from downtown Paris out to CDG, thanks to a traffic tieup.
|||
Not possible........don%26#39;t even consider.........just sit tight and tough it out at CDG (sorry)!

Hey dee --
Once you%26#39;ve been through the ringer that the French call CDG, you%26#39;ll understand why so many of us hate it, and why it%26#39;s a good idea to be grateful that you have four hours to make your connection. At CDG, that%26#39;s not necessarily a lot of time. It depends on how much the luggage gods smile on you.
Leave the ET for the next trip, and make that a trip to Paris for at least a week. You%26#39;ll never regret it.

I agree completely. You never know what you are going to run up against at CDG. For one thing it is not uncommen to unload the planes out on the tarmak and shuttle the passengers to the terminal. This process can take quite awhile especially if you are at the back of the shuttle line. Then you stand in line to get through customs. sometimes short, sometimes long. We have waited up to an hour to get our luggage (there was a strike). You can plan on long lines to check in for your next flight. I%26#39;ve never seen it any other way in the 7 times I%26#39;ve been there. Then you have to stand in line to go through security. You will be lucky to get to your concting flight with only 4 hours in between them. This is not a user friendly airport by any stretch of the imagination.

You really need to be at CDG 3 hours in advance of your flight time to cope with check-in, security, and immigration. So no, I wouldn%26#39;t take a chance on going into Paris with only 4 hours. It can easily take an hour just to get into the city, let alone making the return trip.
Some approaches to the airport give a view of the Eiffel Tower--ask your airline which side of the plane you should sit on when you get your seat assignments.
