Nice or Antibes for solo traveller?

I%26#39;m doing a course in August about 20km outside of Nice and will have a spare night and day before I fly back from Nice to the UK. I%26#39;d like somewhere I can relax on a beach and also do a bit of shopping, but I%26#39;m not sure whether to stay in Nice or Antibes (or elsewhere in this area).

I%26#39;m looking for fairly reasonably priced accommodation located near to the sea (preferably near a good beach), but also not far from shops/restaurants and public transport.

Also I have very minimal French so ideally I%26#39;d like to stay a hotel where they speak good English. Not asking for much hey!

Any tips would be gratefully received!

Since you fly out Nice, why not choose Nice? You have a beach, pebbly though but still a nice beach. It is close to the shopping area (10 minutes walk). Plenty of stores where lots of clerks will accomodate you in English.

The beach is pretty much the same all along Promenade desAnglais.

For the hotel, what is reasonnably priced for you? Remember that August is the big season, so you must make up your mind fast on that one.

I was thinking a budget of between 75-150 euros for one night - ideally towards the lower end - any recomendations on hotels would be great.

Re location I%26#39;m open to staying anywhere along the coast that isn%26#39;t too far from Nice as long as it%26#39;s on the train line.

Try the Hôtel Suisse--although at this point your best bet might be lastminute.com. It%26#39;s pretty late to snag a reservation.

The Mercure group have about five hotels in Nice - all reasonably central and in your price range - and you can check availabliity on line direct through the Mercure/Accor group.

I%26#39;ve stayed at a couple and always found them reliable. Also the %26quot;must stay at x%26quot; places are all booked up by now and you stand a better chance with a group like Mercure

Good luck
