New to paris: need some advice

I%26#39;ll be going to France in Sept. Would be going to Strasbourg 1st before going to Paris. Anyone can offer me some advice as to the fastest and safest way to get to Paris from Strasbourg? Also, I would like to spend a few days in Paris to do some some sightseeing and shopping so was thinking of taking up some land packages. Any to recommend?

You can take a train or you can fly.

Air France has good deals to fly within France.

I do not think a land package is necessary.

Book a centrally located hotel and everything else you need to book (city tours, museum passes, personal guide etc.) by yourself before/when you get there.

Does anyone have any idea how I can find out more about transport to Paris? I can either fly or take the TGV train. The scnf website didn%26#39;t really say which stations in Paris would the train stop. When I tried booking, they just say the train is from strasbourg station to paris est. Where is strasbourg station and where is paris est exactly? Couldn%26#39;t find additional info about locations stations either. Can someone please help??

For locating the station in Paris:

- go to www.mappy.fr

- choose %26quot;plans de ville%26quot;

type %26quot;Gare l%26#39;est%26quot; in the box saying %26quot;No et rue, métro, quartier, gare%26quot;

- tupe %26quot;Paris%26quot; in the next box

- then %26quot;OK%26quot;

You%26#39;ll get a map of Paris showing where this station is.

I guess it%26#39;s the same thing with the station in Strasbourg, I don%26#39;t know if there is several stations there or does the station have any other name than the city.

Just go to this URL :

voyages-sncf.com/guide/gare_en_mouvement/acc…

at the bottom of the page, scroll down your required station after %26quot;gare en mouvement%26quot;.

Merci!

Thanks for all your prompt replies. have been a great to me whose french is limited and can%26#39;t navigate thru the french websites. Mappy is great, maps are clear and provides relevant details.

One question: I read from another post in the forum that Gare L%26#39;est TGV station is closed until next year. So why are they selling tickets now? Also, are the stations used for TGV and conventional trains use the same stations or different ones?

|||

Gare de l%26#39;Est is not closed : the TGV line is not opened yet, that%26#39;s quite different !

Until June 2007, train service to Strasbourg will still run on the conventional line. But some Corail loco-hauled trains will be replaced by TGV trainsets to break them in. Travel times won%26#39;t be affected.

ssf, definitely take the train. Why miss out on such a great opportunity to see more of France. And the trains are more comfortable and friendly. You sound a little anxious... don%26#39;t be. Travel there is well organized and you will see that everything will pretty much just fall into place.

Thanks Bob and aapa for your tips %26amp; site info. They should be helpful in the near future for me as well.

hihi, need some help regarding paris cdg airport. If I arrive at the airport via international flight, and I need to catch a domestic flight from Paris to Strasbourg at the same airport, how long approx would I have to wait to clear customs, claim baggage before I check in again for domestic flight? Heard from my friend that getting from one terminal to another could take a long time, so I need to estimate the time in order to book the domestic flight at the right time, otherwise would miss the flight! Also, anyone have any idea at which terminal does domestic flight use?? The airport website is in French, and there%26#39;s no English version...Thanks again!
