We are heading to Paris for 5 nights in September, we should be arriving at our hotel (Port Doree%26#39;) around 2pm or so. I am not sure if perhaps we should spend that afternoon going to the park and the Chateau, I think we might be able to walk from there. Is it worth the visit, or should we do something else? I don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ll be doing a lot otherwise, maybe spending time getting some dinner and hanging out in the neighborhood.

If you are a DaVinci Code fan you might want to go, the movie was filmed in part at the chateau.

I think it is a perfect jet lag day activity -- a park in the sun.

We won%26#39;t be fresh off the plane (thank goodness) - we actually arrive in London just over a week earlier. (Jet Lag day will be tea and a visit inside Buckingham Palace!). We have 3 nights on Mont St. Michel after London before fleeing the Mont before all the tourists arrive that morning. :) (We stayed there last year as well).
Can we walk from Port Doree to the chateau through the park, or should we take the metro around? I%26#39;ve read that the park is beautiful, but there isn%26#39;t nearly as much information on it (review wise) as there is for much of Paris. I%26#39;ve been to Paris twice before, never stayed in that area. I am very excited to be going back!
Since you all are reading, do you think it would be safe to use the metro to get back after the Fat Tires night tour? I think it ends around 11pm, maybe midnight.
Thank you very much for the replies! I love Paris!

I have not checked lately to see if the donjon is still closed, but if it is, the only thing you can see is the old chapel (The Ste Chapelle)....which is no longer used, but is an interesting place to visit nonetheless, and the grounds, of course. The donjon has been closed for the last three years for renovations. Both buildings that Louis XIV built and lived in are now adminstrative buildings for the navy, so you can%26#39;t tour them. The place is packed with history and it%26#39;s one of my favorite places to visit. If you are a French history buff, I think you%26#39;ll enjoy the trip. If you%26#39;re not a French history freak, I would wait until the renovations are complete on the donjon to make the trip a little more interesting and worthwhile. With that said, I will be making a return trip this September, regardless of the progress on the donjon.

Les...which part of the movie was filmed at the Chateau?? You%26#39;ve got me banging my head now trying to remember.

Thanks everyone - I think we%26#39;ll head there when we first arrive, we should be able to pick up the 4 Day Museum Pass there, from what I understand - and the D%26#39;Orsay is open until 9:30pm that day also if we want to head over (I love that museum!!!)

The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays so of course that is the day I went there, the staff directed me to the D%26#39;Orsay museum and it was AWESOME! I went to Louvre the next day and I got lost it was so large. I definitely recommend the Paris Visite tickets too, into all the musees AND no standing in lines, it is good on the RER too.
