We are going to France in October 2006 for 3 months. Located mainly in the Toulouse area for work, we are looking for the best guide book to help us see as much of France as we can in the weekends. Looking for a guide book that gives good information on what to see, not really interested in the best places to stay or eat. I have looked at the DK Publishing book for France, which seems to give good outline information... but are looking for more opinions.

The DK is probably the best guide to sightseeing if it%26#39;s your first trip. It covers most of the basics and must sees. The only problem is that it isnt really meant for carrying around, being made of good quality VERY heavy paper.
If you want more detail, the Michelin guides are good.
The Rough Guides and Lonely Planet have their advantages, (a lot more detail and practical information) but if you dont need advice for dining and accomodation then theyre probably a bit bulky (but lightweight)

DK also publishes a book for Paris -- I have a bookshelf full of travel guides, but the DK Eyewitness ones are the ones that are dog-eared, written-in, and water-stained....the first ones into the bag, and the one used through the whole trip.

I%26#39;m a big fan of the Michelin Green Guides to all the regions of France. Another good one for you would be the Cadogan Guide.

The DK...what does it stand for? Should I just go to the local book seller and ask thm for the DK Paris guide? Thanks!

If your bookseller is any good (and so few of them are nowadays) they should.
Otherwise it%26#39;s Dorling Kindersley . Be warned though - you dont want to be carrying the France one about - and the Paris one isnt much lighter. Mrs Wiz always declines the offer to carry the pack if DK is in there

Be prepared to throw the rotten tomatoes...the Rick Steves book is a lighthearted, extremely easy to read introduction to France. I also have the DK books, but they are HEAVY and dear Rick suggests you tear out the pages in his book you need. Much lighter. DO NOT try to use the maps, tho.

Thank you Mr. Wiz.....I will look for it! Good for her! WOO HOO!
