audio guides?

I%26#39;m alittle confused about the audio guides that are avilable at several museums in Paris. How exactly do they work? Do they just give you a CD or tape? I%26#39;m bringing my iPod and my girlfriend is bringing her CD player so we were wondering how it works.

Thanks

Audioguides are like small radios with earphones that you hold or attach, and are self contained. One kind is a recorded tour that you listen to as you follow the route, another audioguide found in some museums permits you to dial the # of the artwork and the audio description. Worth the money.

We were in the Louvre and the entrance we come through did not offer the audioguides. We were very dissappointed when we finally stumbled upon them.....I feel especially in the Louvre you need the audio guides to get the very most out of your visit. We also did one in Notre Dame and felt it a waste of money.

I haven%26#39;t listened to them yet, but I downloaded Rick Steves podcasts about Paris (Louvre, Orsay, etc.) They are free, just get them at iTunes.

We had free audio guides at Versailles because we had the one day pass and they were great. We did have to pay for the ones on the tram ride, but it wasn%26#39;t much at all. We also got some with the tour of the palace and museum in Monaco. My husband and I both enjoyed them. If you feel some of the explanations are too long and you are in a hurry to move on you can just push the next number and go to the next room, etc.
