When we were in France most recently, we traveled by train from Paris to Strasbourg. We purchased our tickets at the train station. Before we boarded the train, we had to put the ticket into some sort of yellow box to have it %26quot;punched%26quot; or something like that. On the return trip we forgot to do it and when the conductor came through the car to check tickets, he told us that we should have done it. Luckily he was quite friendly and liked to practice his English so we weren%26#39;t scolded or anything like that. So...my question is...since I%26#39;ve printed our tickets here at home, what do I need to do with them when we arrive at the train station? Thanks again for all your fabulous information!

I%26#39;m not Morgan but i was curious about the question so I%26#39;ll answer it...you have to punch your ticket, regardless of what kind it is. The puncher puts some holes in it but also stamps the date and time so the ticket can%26#39;t be reused or refunded.

Thanks Les! Since the paper on which my ticket is printed is just regular xerox copier paper and is a different size than the %26quot;purchased at the train station%26quot; ticket, does it fit in the puncher box? Do I just need to fold it so that it is approximately the same size? Merci beaucoup!

Actually tickets printed at home do not have to be validated in the little yellow machines. Only tickets that are puchased at the station or via mail must be validated.

To give a little more info... the reason for that being that the home printed tickets are nomative and date specific, non refundable non changable. Unlike those sold at the station for higher prices.

Thanks so much Morgan! Again, I appreciate your help!

Sorry for the misinformation. I assumed all must be punched...technology is changing all the rules.

You would have a pain trying to punch printed tickets anyway, since new validating machines (the yellow/grey ones) have a slot that will only accept %26quot;regular%26quot; SNCF tickets (those of IATA size)
